Ouma as the Last Resort
A 42-years-old woman with an IVF pregnancy at 8 weeks contacted us from the ER as she experienced complications from diabetes and a newly-diagnosed COVID-19 infection. She contacted Ouma due to refusal by her OB and primary care physician to be seen for initiation of diabetic management. She met with the Ouma diabetic educator and maternal-fetal medicine physician the same day, and medical supplies were called in. Within 24 hours, given markedly elevated values, an insulin regimen was called in, and self-injection training provided. She was subsequently handed off to a local maternal-fetal medicine physician for management.

Outcome: Potential heart defect in the baby avoided by limiting early pregnancy high sugar exposure, along with maternal complications from diabetes.
