When no one else would see this patient
A 42-year-old patient with an IVF pregnancy at 8 weeks contacted Ouma from the ER after experiencing complications from diabetes and a newly diagnosed COVID-19 infection. The patient reached out because their OB and primary care physician both refused to see them for initiation of diabetic management.
They met with the Ouma diabetic educator and maternal-fetal medicine physician the same day. Medical supplies were called in within hours, and given markedly elevated values, an insulin regimen was prescribed within 24 hours with self-injection training. The patient was then handed off to a local MFM physician for ongoing management.
